COLES DISTRICT ISSUES

Putting Coles Citizens First

Yesli was elected in 2019 on a platform of increased public safety, lower property taxes, citizen first land use, and accountability and transparency in government.

For Yesli, these weren’t just empty promises to get elected. Her word is her bond with the citizens of the Coles District and she will always put them first.

Restore Safety to Prince William County

Even before the crime wave gripping Prince William County began, Yesli was the beating the drum on the county’s deficit of over 300 officers (from its own levels of service standards) needed to keep Prince William County residents safe.

Yesli has advocated for and introduced budgets to increase officer pay and the number of officers every year she’s been in office. As a current Auxiliary Sheriff and former street cop, the rank-and-file that risk their lives for Prince William County know Yesli’s got their back.

As a fellow law enforcement officer and mother of two, Yesli knows that public safety is paramount to the quality of life we all want and deserve here in Prince William County and will never stop fighting for you.

Citizen First Land Use

Prince William County government exists to serve its citizens of today - not the Metro Washington Council of Governments’ dictates, or the special interests. For decades, county residents have been crying out for our infrastructure to keep pace with population growth, or  to slow population growth altogether. Prince William County belongs to its current residents and Yesli has kept her promise to listen to her constituents and the citizens of Prince William County in their desire for a more balanced approach to development.

County residents are fed up with ever increasing traffic, school overcrowding, the outsized influence of the data center industry, and overdevelopment at their expense. Yesli will continue to stand with residents of all political stripes and neighborhoods to maintain and improve our quality of life here in Prince William County and the Coles District.

Friend of the Taxpayer

County residents know that nobody has fought harder for them and their pocketbooks over the last four years than Supervisor Vega.

Supervisor Vega has fought tax increases, new taxes, and proposed property tax cuts for county residents and homeowners - every single year.

Prince William County taxpayers have been walloped in the midst of COVID and the highest inflation rates in forty years. As part of a new governing majority, Supervisor Vega will continue to lead the fight on behalf of Prince William County taxpayers through lower residential taxes and a repeal of the regressive Meals Tax.

Standing Up to Special Interests

Whether it’s developers, union bosses, defund the police advocates, or multi-billion dollar data centers, the special interests and big money players know Supervisor Vega’s vote is not for sale.

No amount of political pressure or campaign contributions will interfere with her putting the desires of the citizens of the Coles District first.

Fiscal Responsibility

Even with the massive infusion of COVID cash from the state and federal government, Prince William County government has increased county taxpayer spending by over $300 million dollars since COVID began.

Supervisor Vega views her primary role as being a good steward of your tax dollars and has stood up against wasteful government spending and attempts to increase the size and scope of government intrusion in your daily lives.

Government Efficiency

The job of supervisor is to represent the will of the citizens to their government - not the other way around.

Prince William County’s government has become bloated and inefficient with annual record increases in government spending funded on the backs of our hardworking taxpayers.

Supervisor Vega believes there should be a sacred bond between a public servant and the public they’re paid to serve, and places a high level of expectation on all of Prince William’s public servants to treat your money like it’s their very own. She considers it a mission to hold herself and those in Prince William County government accountable to you at the most efficient and highest level of service possible.

Transparency in Government

Through the Coles District Newsletter and e-mail alerts, Supervisor Vega has provided County residents with the most comprehensive overview of the good, the bad, and the ugly of Prince William County government and the Board of County Supervisors.

Additionally, she spearheaded the efforts against Chair Wheeler’s proposals to limit the ability of county residents to address their elected body and limit public comment time. She firmly believes that Prince William County’s elected officials are there to serve the citizens of Prince William County - not the other way around.

Sunlight is the best natural disinfectant and Supervisor Vega takes great pride in shedding light on your local government’s decisions - the good, the bad, and the ugly.
